Reader Problems | A.K.A Every Bookworm’s Nightmare

Hey guys!

We readers all have those painful, frustrating, or just plain heart-breaking problems. Also known as #readerproblems. Since I’ve lately been experiencing a number of these, I decided to write a post about some of them! I apologize in advance, as this is about to get super ranty.

1. I WANT THIS SERIES TO END BUT I ALSO DON’T

This is definitely a huge one for me. That beloved series that you’ve been following and enjoying for months if not years is drawing to its inevitable close. EXCITING, RIGHT? WRONG. Sure, I want to know who ends up with who, and which one of the characters will die, not to mention that totally awesome final battle scene. But when it’s over, IT’S OVER. How am I supposed to say goodbye to these beautiful characters who are basically my family? *weeps*

2. SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS!

I mean, hello? Are you trying to ruin my existence? It’s one thing when you are not warned of spoilers, one minute, you’re just reading through someone’s bookstagram caption and then BAM, the ending to the book you are so excited to read. What really gets me is when someone tells you that there won’t be spoiled in this review, or caption, or whatever AND THERE ARE STILL SPOILERS. Whether the spoilers are “minor” or not, I don’t want to know. Even worse, when people enjoy spoiling something for someone. Like, what?

Not funny, Agent Coulson

3. IS LENDING THAT BOOK REALLY WORTH IT?

Say you’re friend isn’t much into reading but you know that she’ll love this one book that you read. So you think eh, what’s the harm? There’s plenty of harm. Unless you are one hundred percent sure that that book is gonna come back to you looking pretty, don’t do it. I’ve definitely tried and learned the hard way, especially with paperbacks.

Here’s a tip: If you are going to lend a book and it’s hardcover, keep the dust jacket with you to prevent accidental ripping. *shudders*

4. SLEEP OR BOOKS?

It’s a choice that all bookworms must face. It’s nearing midnight and you know you have that big test tomorrow… but there are only 63 more pages left in Red Queen… what matters most? Psshh, sleep is for the weak.

5. WHEN DID YOU SAY THAT WAS BEING RELEASED? 2017?!

You’re totally powering through an awesome new book and enjoying the heck out of it. Before you know it, the cliffhanger is there and you hit up Amazon to order the sequel stat. But wait, no, no, NO. The sequel doesn’t release for months. Months. *weeps again*

6. PAPERBACKS OR HARDCOVERS?

The ultimate question. While hardcovers are SO gorgeous and are normally released before the paperback version of a book, paperbacks are lighter, cheaper, easier to carry around, and sometimes even easier to read. BUT HARDCOVERS ARE SO PRETTY. Ugh, the struggle.

7. WANTING THE MOVIE BUT ALSO NO

You know when you finish this amazing series and all you want is for every person on Earth to hear the story, too? And then you think Oh, it would make SUCH a great movie? I think that a lot actually, and I kind of wish for a movie. But I also don’t, because, chances are, it’s gonna suck. Whether it’s the cast or the script or the fact that it was nothing like the book *cough Percy Jackson cough*, it probably won’t live up to a reader’s expectations.

8. THE DREADED SLUMP

And finally, the reading slump. You’ve picked up and put down eight books in a row and none of them are speaking to you. Will you ever read again? Or are you doomed to live a bookless life? Don’t worry, all slumps end, and when they do, you’ll be as good as new!

I hope at least one of those was relatable to you because I’ve definitely experienced every one of those struggles.

Did I miss some struggles? Did you guys totally relate to these #readerproblems, or are there lots more to worry about? Tell me in the comments! 🙂

Stay bookish,

Jordyn

  1. THIS IS SO ME! I literally just finished writing my next post and some of our “reader problems” (I call them bookish pet peeves lol) are exactly the same. This made me laugh because we are so similar!! I am so incredibly picky with lending my books out, and I HATE spoilers! And you are so right! They sucked at making the Percy Jackson movies…ugh. Anyway, this was so fun to read! You’ve gained a new follower 🙂

  2. I relate to every single one of these! READERS HAVE IT HARD. It used to KILL me when books get cover changes mid-way through the series! I had to rebuy the whole series just to get that little bit of peace in my heart. Now I’ve just given up! Haha it’s worse when the covers get worse than they were befor! XD

  3. How about when you start a series and read the second book and it’s bad and it can only go downhill so now you have to pretend the first book is really a standalone. The disappointment is too much.
