And the Bookish Oscar Goes To…

I’m not really an Oscars type of person. Celebrities, Hollywood… just not what I’m interested in. But, do you know what I am interested in? BOOKS! Shocking, right?

So if any of you bibliophiles like me are out there, and decided to ditch the Oscars this year, I’ve created a bookish one for you!

Of course, this list has no input from others – the only voter is myself! I know, how democratic of me. Also these aren’t limited to what was released last year, but from all the years before that, too!

BEST BOOK

Awarded to my personal favorite book. *Sigh* Who can really choose their favorite book?

In truth, I have far too many favorites to nominate, but this one is definitely high on the list! I absolutely adore this series, which happens to be about interdimensional travel! Plus, I am 100% in love with Paul Markov.

BEST CHARACTER IN A LEADING ROLE

Awarded to the most powerful protagonist. A character that kicks butt and takes names.

I love this girl. She is intelligent and dangerous at the same time. I mean the whole reason she meets Khalid is through her cunning prowess. Even when she’s falling in love, she’s always on her guard and ready to throw down. If there was one character that I could give a high-five to, it would probably be her.

BEST CHARACTER IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

Awarded to the best secondary/side character. The “sidekicks” of YA, the ones that always knock some sense into our heroes and heroines.

Sorry, Hermione! I still love you, I promise! I just love Iko’s sassiness! She’s such a fun character to read and I can’t wait to read the graphic novel all about her, Wires and Nerves!

BEST WRITING

Awarded to the novel with the most stupendous writing. A book that truly takes you into its world with its descriptors.

I know, I know. All of you are screaming at me to pick Six of Crows. But every time I open up Wayfarer, I immediately fall back into the world. One word: imagery. It’s breathtaking. I aspire to write like Bracken, who truly has a gift.

BEST HEARTBREAKER

Awarded to the book that truly shatters your soul and leaves you lying in a million cracked pieces. We love and hate these books for what they do to us.

Which only made me cry about 37284313 times. I highly recommend to keep a box of tissues on standby. This book is artwork. I will sing its praises until the day I die, and I can’t wait to read History is All You Left Me!

BEST UNDERHYPED BOOK

Awarded to a severely underrated novel that deserves all the fame of  its popular brethren.

Doon by Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon

The Memory of Things by Gae Polisner

Starflight by Melissa Landers

And the Bookish Oscar goes to… The Memory of Things by Gae Polisner!

You guys, this book is just so great. It tells the story of a teenage boy who finds a girl covered in ash right after the Twin Towers fall on September 11, 2001. It is impactful, well-written, and you can read much more about it in my review!

BEST SHIP

Awarded to the absolute cutest relationship in all of YA. This is definitely a difficult one to award – there are so many adorable ships out there!

Okay, maybe I’m a little biased because I’m currently reading Wayfarer (review pending). But you have to admit, these two make an awesome team! They compliment each other so well, and work incredibly together. Their devotion to each other makes me swoon every time.

Was this just a fun way for me to watch my favorite books battle it out? Possibly. But hopefully you enjoyed it as much as I did! Who needs the Academy Awards, when you’ve got The Bookish Oscars!
