Long time, no see, bibliophiles! How goes it?
Today, I’m here to deliver to you, some YA sci-fi’s I love that I haven’t seen a whole lot of people reading or talking about. I haven’t screamed about any underrated faves in a while, so I figured this post was long overdue.
1. Sanctuary by Caryn Lix
First book on this list hasn’t technically come out, but it will soon, and I haven’t seen many people mentioning it!
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this and I would probably pitch it as a cross between The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken and Want by Cindy Pon, in that it’s about overthrowing a corporation with way too much power and influence but also involves freaky kids with wild abilities… in space.
Ready to preorder yet?
It’s got a lovable cast of criminals, a romance that is both slow-burn and fast-paced, and a plot that will keep your heart thumping the whole way through. It’s futuristic, witty, and really, really badass. I can hardly wait for the sequel.
Don’t miss Sanctuary by Caryn Lix, coming to a bookstore near you on July 24th, 2018.
2. Nyxia by Scott Reintgen
Emmett Atwater is one of the best protagonists I’ve read from in a while. His voice is so refreshingly honest, so deeply flawed. Every relationship in this book is unique, and though there are quite a few to keep track of, it never gets confusing. A few well-placed twists keeps this book very, very intriguing. Plus, the writing is nothing short of commendable.
Let me put it this way: it didn’t feel like some author was sitting at their desk, typing up this book. It really felt like Emmett was an actual person telling me his amazing story. It’s not something I realized some books miss until I read this one. Sequel coming July 17th, 2018.
3. Shadow Run by AdriAnne Strickland and Michael Miller
I almost wrote a review for this one way back when, but I was so backlogged on posts that I didn’t get the chance.
This book is told from two different perspectives, both of which are awesome and unique. Qole is the space captain heroine you’ve always wanted and Nev is… well, wouldn’t want to give it away!
I’ll admit that comparing a book to The Lunar Chronicles are some pretty big shoes to fill. But I will say, that the Shadow Run crew will definitely have you feeling nostalgic for our good ol’ Rampion team. Plus, a slow-burn romance that will keep you hooked.
That’s it for my most recent sci-fi recs!
Have you read any of these underhyped books? Are there any sci-fi’s you wished more people paid attention to? Tell me in the comments! 🙂
