5 March YA Releases I Can’t Wait to Dig Into

It’s no secret that March is rolling out some great releases this year

The book community is practically buzzing. Every Tuesday there are new books to celebrate, so this Tuesday, I’m listing my most awaited releases of the month.

Where Have I Been? (And What Have I Been Reading?)

These are both fair questions.

So, I’ve been on a sort of unofficial hiatus for the past few weeks and my only excuse is that my life got extremely busy when school started in August. And by the time October rolled around I was lost in schoolwork, music practice, and (trying) to read.

Which brings us to: What have I been reading?

Booktubeathon 2017 TBR

So I could use a readathon right now.

I’m 8 books behind on my reading challenge as of late, which is only slightly pitiful, especially since I can feel the calendar pushing towards August and the start of my sophomore year. I’m going to be pulled into homework, AP classes, and extracurriculars.

Therefore, I feel like this is my chance to catch up. It’s now or never and I really  want to achieve my goal this year.

I know you can’t see me, as is the nature of a blog, but I am throwing confetti at you.

Well, in my mind at least because, hey, IT’S MY ONE YEAR BLOGIVERSARY BABY!

It’s really difficult for me to believe that it’s been a whole year. This time last year, I was freaking out and reading re-reading my first blog post before it went live. I was so nervous that no one would ever read it. That no one would ever read anything I ever wrote.

I don’t even have the words to thank everyone that has ever read one of my posts. Even if you didn’t get past the first sentence, you clicked on it, for some reason, and I am grateful.

5 Books I Didn’t Expect to Love | Spoiler Alert: I Did!

Deciding what to read next is hard.

As bookworms, we know this. As bloggers, we especially know this. Who has time to read a book that they’re just not interested in? As such, I generally don’t bother picking up books that I’m not at least 70% sure I’ll enjoy. I mean, my TBR is begging for mercy as it is, and it just cannot afford the extra weight.

Blogger Things I Don’t Do

I’m slowly approaching my eight-month blogiversary! YAY!!

“Jordyn. Eight months? That’s kind of a random number!” Yes it is! But you’ll only be able to find out why eight months is so symbolic in the actual blogiversary post! Get psyched for that. I know it’ll keep you up at night.

13 Diverse Books I’m Afraid I’ll Have to Read This Year

Haha, afraid. Because, you know… Happy Friday the 13th!

Friday the 13th has always seemed like a mini-Halloween to me. I mean, sure, you don’t dress up and go trick-or-treating, but it does have that spooky aspect to it.

In honor of today, I’m talking about 13 diverse books that I totally need to get my hands on this year. And, despite the title that was created to celebrate this “holiday”, I’m not afraid of any of these. On the contrary, I’m freaking pumped to read them. Some have already been released, some have yet to be published, but either way, I’ve got to read these books before the year is up.

A Reading Year in Review | Goodbye 2016

I’m not going to say that this reading year sucked, because it didn’t. I read some great things – in fact, I even found my new favorite book/trilogy! Yay!

But, if I had to describe my year in books in one word, it would be… mediocre.

My multi-month reading slump made it difficult to keep a steady rhythm of reading. The whole pick up a new book, devour it, then pick up the next one. Rinse and repeat. That was last year’s reading. This year, not so much.

My NaNoWriMo Failure

Well, as you can see from the title, this is not going to be my most cheery post.

Yeah. NaNoWriMo. It’s over! But it did not work in my favor…

I didn’t do awfully. In fact, I totaled 30,466 words, which is nothing to sneeze at. Plus, I really like my story and, although it needs a lot of work, I think it has a lot of potential to turn into something real.

I’m disappointed in myself, definitely, and there’s just no getting around that. I lost NaNo last year, and this year, I was sure I could beat it, get that 50k. And honestly, in the first 12 days, it was within my reach. I was actually ahead. Afterwards? I hit a rut. A huge, all-consuming rut that I couldn’t pull myself out of. For the remainder of month, I would only right 11,000 more words.

What went wrong? I’m not entirely sure. A lot. A little. However, if there’s one thing this NaNo round has taught me, it’s this: you need people.

You need a support system. Whether it be friends or family, that are going to push you to keep going, even when you want to stop, even when you feel like an awful writer, even when you’re positive that you can’t do it. I didn’t really have that.

I mean, sure, twitter was a blast. The sprints were what kept me going half the time, not to mention a great source of procrastination, but it’s not the same. I told my family about it and, yeah, they were supportive. But I didn’t get that push that I think I’d only be able to get from fellow writer friends. Maybe next year I’ll get more into the forums, invest time in my community’s write-ins. But, for now, I’m going to rest my fingers because my God are they tired. I’m going to store away my story to look at in a few weeks with new eyes, and I am going to put my NaNo playlist to bed because I’ve heard all those songs enough times to last me the rest of my life.

Because, even though I failed last time around, and this time, one thing will remain true: there’s always next year.

Congrats to all the NaNoWriMo winners out there! YOU DID IT! 50,000 words!

It wouldn’t be a Jordyn post without a gif.

Did you win NaNo? Do you want to crawl under the covers and hide like I do? Tell me in the comments! 🙂

Stay bookish,
